The Croda Rossa (3.146 m) is one of the most famous peaks of Cortina D’Ampezzo area. The name come from the particular red colour of the rock of this mountain. The Croda Rossa rises in the Natural Park of Ampezzo Dolomites. It is possible to do a very satisfying 1-day hike close to the western side of the mountain, starting from Malga Ra Stua, few kilometres far from Cortina d’Ampezzo. In July and August the 3 km way from Fiames to Malga Ra Stua is closed to private cars, so you have to take the Shuttle Service from the Info Point of the Natural Park.
From Malga Ra Stua take the path to Sennes Hut and go up the Val Salata (Salt Valley) along an easy trail. After 15-20′ you will emerge in a large glade called Ciamp de la Crosc. Then take the path n. 26 “Alpe di Fossès” on your right and start a steep ascent that after 20′-30′ minutes take you to the top of the Fosses plateau 2.170 mt. (make a stop to see around you the beautiful landscape).
Now you can enjoy a relaxing descent towards the Fosses Lakes. When you arrive to the little wood house “casòn”, take the path to the right that in 30′ max. will take you to the Biella Hut 2.327 mt., at the foot of Croda del Becco peak.
From the Biella Hut you can slowly descend in an easy and large trail admiring the variety of the rocks around you, and in about 2’00 hrs you will go back to Malga Ra Stua.
